Small Business Spotlight: Lindsey Hicks Photography

As the world struggles to maintain (and create) normalcy, and with millions of Americans out of work, we believe that supporting small businesses is a great way to take action and make a big impact. Every Saturday, WDID features a company that we love in the Small Business Spotlight series. This week we're getting into the familial vision of Orlando, Florida's Lindsey Hicks Photography.

What is Lindsey Hicks Photography?

I specialize in natural light, portrait photography. I love meeting new couples and families and helping them create lasting memories through pictures.

What is the story of your business?

Although I have not been doing photography for long, I have found a deep passion for it. It all started when I found out I was pregnant with my son four years ago, and on a whim, my husband and I bought a camera. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would become a business adventure but I am so grateful that it has. I always told my husband that I wanted to find a career that I was as passionate about, as he was about physical therapy. While in college I never felt that any of the career paths I was given were the right direction for me. It wasn’t until our first family professional photoshoot, in 2017 with Gabby Girdner Photography,  that I really started diving into the art of photography.

What I want people to know about me is that I genuinely love capturing real/raw moments. Laughter makes for the best photos! I know just how special family photos are and it is my passion to give my clients the best possible experience. For me, it’s about capturing the love between a family or a couple and providing my clients with something that will last forever.

How has Covid impacted your business?

As crazy as it sounds, COVID-19 has provided me with the extra time to perfect my craft. As horrible of a situation as the world is currently, there has been some good to come of it. I truly believe the extra time we’ve all been given with our family could not have come at a better time. As a community, we needed to slow down and reflect on the good things that we have, rather than the bad. "The Front Porch Project" has been an incredible way to not only meet my neighbors but to also get out of the house *safely* to do what I love.

What is the best way for people to help your business during Covid Closures?

The best way for people to support not only me but other photographers during this time would be to share their work, leave a review on their website, or book a session for the future when everything opens back up.

*Action Step*: Check out LHP online and, whether you're in Orlando or beyond, consider booking a natural light photoshoot for your family.

Owner spotlight:

Lindsey Hicks - Owner of Lindsey Hicks Photography

As for me, I’ve been married to my wonderful husband Trevor for 4 1/2 years, together for 10. We have two beautiful children, Carson is 3 1/2, and Lilliann is two.  Being a stay at home mom of two, is no easy task and photography has been my creative outlet. Although I grew up in Kansas City (GO CHIEFS), Orlando has always been home, as my family has lived here forever.

Editor's note:

When recommended to us, Lindsey Hicks Photography caught our eye because of her lovely natural light photography and because of her amazing initiative called "The Front Porch Project" in which she keeps proper social distance while capturing families at their homes. The concept is beautiful and reminds me that one small adjustment to the way we have done things can open up a whole new world of opportunity. - David Kimple

What Do I Do? is a podcast and blog about current events for folx who want to get involved. The goal of “What Do I Do?” is to use levity and brevity to identify approachable ways for folx to take action during a time where the world’s issues are very overwhelming. We talk about one thing happening in the world (social issues, politics, current events) and finish by identifying specific action steps a person can use to get involved whether they are physical, financial, emotional, or other.
